How can you not be
interested in wine when you live in El Bierzo and drink centuries of history
whenever you make a toast with a Mencía?
Prada gradually became
dreamily intrigued with the world and culture of wine. On these banks of the
River Cúa, its slopes are etched with vineyards dating back twelve
centuries, vines which have since been recreated and enriched by the French
monks who built monasteries throughout this wondrous land of El Bierzo, planted
vines which withstood plagues... particular varieties which could only be
soothed by this sun and this hoed land of El Bierzo.Prada
threw himself in wholeheartedly as always
, learning, experimenting,
testing the improvement of things.
In 1988 he decided to
purchase the palace of the Estate of Canedo and its farmland, which at the time
was extensive and was mainly dedicated to vineyards. The
Palace dates back to 1730 and is majestic throughout; the capacity of its
winery is remarkable, occupying the lower part of the Palace tower, and it was
there that most of the house wine was stored
But although it was an
exceptional place for wine, another cellar was built with all the technology
available at the time in order to process this wonderful variety that is Mencía.
